Description
1 pack of 15 Solanum lasiocarpum seeds, Terung Asam, Borneo eggplant, Dyak apple.
These are from Borneo stock, plant has very little thorns, almost none just some short ones. Fruit is very different from “common” Solanum lasiocarpum syn. Solanum ferox. Borneo eggplant is likely a subspecies of Solanum lasiocarpum, it is almost void of thorns, the fruit is a a lot bigger and taste sweet when ripe.
The fruits are delicious when raw and ripe, they are sweet when ripe, best fruit in the genus after tomato in my opinion. It’s a lot better then Naranjilla and Baquicha or wild Solanum ferox.
Borneo eggplants have large fruits, 5cm diameter or more. They usually also have green stripes along the fruit. The interion becomes soft when ripe and is sweet and delicious.
Asam means Sour and in Borneo this fruit is mainly used unripe in cooking. This fruit is sour when unripe.
These are vigerous plants which are easy to grow. Here they are perennial, survives the wetseason without issues.
I suspect there are many varieties of Borneo eggplant.
