Description
1 pack of 10 Artocarpus nitidus subsp. lingnanensis seeds, Red Kwai muk
Fruits are delicious, the closest to a peach I can grow in my tropical wet climate. Good flavour, better than lachucha in my opinion but fruits of Lachucha is bigger.
The whole fruit is edible, skin and arils. The sap is only lightly sticky, no issue, not at all like Jackfruit. The fruits doesn’t store well and bruise easy but doesn’t seams to have any insect damage. Perfect fruit for eating during gardening. Picking fruit is advised as they smash when dropping on the ground, so keep the tree low.
Seeds come from a highly productive tree. I have seen other mature trees in other towns that doesn’t produce well despite good conditions.
Kwai muk is a very good windbreak tree, the sturdiest tree that I know of. It requires no fertiliser really and when established can take some dry periods. Grows quite fast but keeps itself compact which is great for a wind break. The height of the tree is easily managed if you prune it some before it starts fruiting, when fruiting starts it will not put much effort into growing tall unless you place it in a shady area. Can’t find a better windbreak tree and the bonus is delicious fruits.
